Ever wondered how many insects you should feed your bearded dragon? Or how much greens your bearded dragon needs? Or maybe your dragon is getting older and you’re wondering how their diet changes over time. There’s a common myth that surrounds the adult bearded dragon diet.

Bearded Dragon Myth Number Two: Adult bearded dragons should eat mostly greens, with a diminished insect diet. This is false. According to a 2015 study (The Diet of Free-Roaming Australian Central Bearded Dragons), while it is true that baby bearded dragons eat more insects than adults, the ratio of insect to green is closer than many think.

Baby bearded dragons should be fed about 90% insects to 10% greens and Adults about 50% each. As always, diet diversity is critical and just as important as proper insect to plant matter breakdown. We’re glad you’re doing research on behalf of your pet! Do us a favor and feed them a proper diet!
