Why our bugs cost more

Raised for quality. Not for mass production.

Most commercial feeder operations are optimized for yield — cheapest feed, warmest possible rooms, fastest harvest cycle. We optimize for what's actually in the bug. Three things, specifically.

We feed all our bugs a high-quality, vitamin- and mineral-fortified grain-based diet. Published research is clear: what a feeder eats directly shapes its final nutrient profile.

What that
means in practice
Nutrient-dense bugs, no harmful byproducts

Common questions

FAQs

How is Boost different from ReptiBites Premium?
Premium is a complete diet with a feeding schedule, 4+ species, and bi-weekly delivery — designed for owners who want us to do the thinking. Boost is a monthly supplement of two species (BSFL + hornworms) with no feeding schedule — designed for owners who already have a feeding rhythm and want better feeders layered in.
Why isn't there a feeding schedule with Boost?
Because Boost is built to layer on top of a diet you already run. You (or your vet) already know your reptile's routine — Boost just gives you better feeders to work into it. If you'd rather we plan the whole diet and schedule for you, that's what ReptiBites Premium is for.
How much Boost should I feed?
It depends on your species, age, and the rest of the diet, so we leave the amounts to you and your vet. As a supplement, most owners work Boost feeders in a few times a week alongside their staple diet. When in doubt, follow your existing feeding guidance and use Boost to upgrade the quality of what you offer.
Can I subscribe to both Premium and Boost?
You can — but for a single reptile we'd usually steer you away from running both at once: together they're simply more feeders than one animal needs. Premium already delivers a complete, scheduled diet, and Boost is best when you're not on Premium and just want to upgrade the feeders you're already giving. If you keep several reptiles, or your vet has a specific plan, running both can make sense.
What happens if my bugs don't arrive alive?
Reach out and we'll take care of you. We don't automatically reship every order that has a loss, but we always make it right for the customer — send us a photo and we'll work out the best resolution with you.
What do you feed your insects?
Our feeders are raised on a fortified, grain-based diet — not fillers. That feed, plus controlled temperature, humidity, and air exchange, is what puts the nutrition inside the bug (like our BSFL's 1.78:1 calcium-to-phosphorus ratio) rather than just growing them as fast and cheap as possible.
Who does your third-party testing?
Samples go to Midwest Laboratories, an independent accredited lab in Omaha, Nebraska. Every quarter they run a full nutritional and heavy-metal panel — protein, fat, calcium, phosphorus, lead, arsenic, mercury and more. Our most recent results show all heavy metals below reporting limits, and the full report is available on request.
Can I pause, skip, or cancel?
Anytime. Manage your subscription from your account — pause it, skip a month, change the frequency, or cancel. No penalty, no phone call.
Is Boost right for my specific pet?
Boost's BSFL and hornworms suit most insectivorous and omnivorous reptiles, like bearded dragons and leopard geckos. Because every animal's needs differ by age and health, we always recommend checking with your exotics vet before changing any diet. If you're unsure, reach out — we're happy to help.
How do I store the bugs after they arrive?
Keep them cool and out of direct sun, and follow the care card in the box. BSFL keep best at cool room temperature; hornworms stay in their ventilated cup. Handled that way, your feeders stay healthy until feeding time.
